Neck and shoulder pain.
Stiffness, spasm, and range of motion that keeps shrinking. Usually blamed on posture, usually more complicated than that.
People arrive at neck pain from a lot of directions. A desk and a monitor set two inches too low. A night on a bad pillow that never fully resolved. A car accident eight months ago. Stress that lives in the shoulders. Jaw clenching that pulls on everything attached to it.
Those causes want different treatment, which is why generic advice about posture does so little. A joint that has stopped moving needs to move. A muscle locked in spasm needs to release before anything else will hold. A nerve being irritated needs the pressure taken off it. Guessing which one you have, and treating all three the same way, is how people end up six months into something that is not improving.
Where the jaw comes in
More neck complaints trace back to the jaw than most patients expect. Clenching and grinding load the muscles that run from the jaw down into the neck and across the top of the shoulders. Treat the neck and ignore the jaw and it comes back. One patient described exactly that pattern: neck, shoulder, and back issues alongside grinding teeth from stress.
What treatment looks like
Adjustment restores movement where a segment has locked down. Acupuncture works on the muscular and nervous system side, which is usually what makes the adjustment hold rather than undoing itself by Thursday. Dr. Simaan does both, in the same visit, when the exam says both are indicated.
"He was able to help me so quickly when I was having a muscle spasm in my neck/shoulder with very little range of motion. The e-stim, accupuncture and adjustments helped me feel so much better!"
"Doctor is very knowledgeable about my neck, shoulder and back issues along with grinding teeth due by the stress. I had acupuncture and adjustment there twice. he is very skilled."
